Let me be your personal search engine!

Hi Reader!

Doulas as Search Engines

I love my little quote which I'm pretty sure I thought of myself (lol), but I am also pretty sure I can't trademark for obvious reasons. It goes, "Don't Google it, Doula it." Clever right? I think you can see why I can't make this my logo though.

But, in all seriousness, doulas (and childbirth educators and lactation professionals and parent group leaders etc.) are a WEALTH of knowledge. My other much-used quote is "postpartum doulas know a little about a lot". We deep dive into the stuff that's come up with our clients and the things that interest us most, and we also tend to have information or at least resources on just about everything. Where we don't know the exact details, we know who to guide you towards in order to obtain them.

"Postpartum Doulas know a little about a lot. Let us be your personal search engines."

Our formal training includes how to care for the caregivers, typically the parents, of newborns and it also includes a lot about the newborns themselves. Many birth professionals (as we call ourselves as a group) are a little obsessed with all things pregnancy, birth and postpartum so we tend to be in a constant state of education. We listen to podcasts, read books, and sign up for all the classes in order to learn, learn, learn. Plus, necessity is the mother of invention, right? So, when our clients need something, we tend to learn all about it, which ends up being super useful for future families too!

We expand our expertise by learning about pregnancy symptoms (and why they occur and how to alleviate them), how to know when labor is about to begin, navigating the hospital, what to do once your home with baby, all things newborn, details about breastfeeding and bottle feeding, postpartum mental health, baby wearing, baby massage, how to maximize sleep, starting solids - oh, I could go on and on! We are a bit obsessed with learning ALL of the things. So much so that we often spend our hard-earned money on additional trainings. We just can't help ourselves. But that just ends up benefiting you!

So, hire your doula early, schedule a prenatal AND a postpartum lactation appointment, take all the prenatal classes you can take, join a postpartum parent group (join before baby comes so they don't sell out!) and USE us! We are HAPPY to be used in this way!!

Also! Remember that Pinterest is less a social media platform and more a personal search engine so check out my Pinterest for more info all about the mysterious and amazing perinatal period!

New Family Needs

Hi! I'm Hilary (she/her) and I'm so glad you're here! I started my work as a Doula supporting families with new babies in 2019. But I really started in 2008 when I became pregnant with my first child. My passion for helping parents to navigate the amazing and sometimes crazy transition to becoming parents was born when I became a new parent myself. I've LIVED and LEARNED the pregnancy, labor and postpartum experience through my own personal life and through my hundreds of clients. I am honored, thrilled and humbled to join you on your journey.

As always, feel free to REPLY to this email with any questions for me AND any topics you'd like covered here and in my blog. Hiring an overnight doula or newborn care specialist can help new parents in so many wonderful ways: One of the main things that clients talk with me about both prenatally and postpartum is SLEEP. Expecting parents are sometimes actually scared of the lack of sleep they expect and...

If you have worked with me or know me at all, you probably know that I'm obsessed with baby wearing! I wore my second baby (and had big dreams to wear my first but that's a story for another day). Before I became a doula, I always gifted wraps to friends...
